Lots of companies sell steel-- Dunn is not a producer or a mill, we're a metallurgy and engineering laboratory; and as a non-producer, we're not locked in to selling you what we produce... we can sell you precisely what you need. This innovative approach to steel distribution is pushing the envelope in the industry, forcing it to reconsider itself-- other companies are now struggling to match the quality and variety of our grades! All of our manufacturers meet current ISO 9000 standards. All our steels are manufactured in the United States, with the exception of DSS#3, which will soon be produced in the U.S.A. (year 2000). The overall goal of Dunn Specialty Steels, Inc. is to provide a quality product at a competitive price supported by quick service and technical expertise; not to be the largest or the cheapest provider in this field, but the best in technical services and support. We assert that a product is no good unless backed up with the technical support appropriate to your application.
About the Owner Fred Dunn, Sr., the owner of Dunn Specialty Steels, Inc., has studied the relationship between volume, time frame of manufacture, size and constituent material of part, to determine which steel provides the optimum fit for each application. "Would you rather drive costs up 20% on a more expensive die that lasts longer," asks Dunn, "or 100%, because you have to order two dies that don't last as long?" Dunn began his steel background as a machinist in a vocational high school, and has been in the specialty steels industry since 1959, bringing 40 years of experience to the production of specialty steels. Fred Dunn finds himself considered somewhat of an eccentric in the steel industry; his developments are shaking up what was a very inflexible business. In anticipation of possible resistance to new ideas, he did his applications testing before going to the established clinical studies group. "It was the right way to go," says Dunn, because the field tests results were exceptionally close to Dunn's predictions. |
