Anviloy® 1150
If you use H-13 tool steel for your tooling, you will be
pleasantly surprised with Anviloy® 1150. Anviloy® 1150 is a tungsten
based material that has been developed primarily for the die casting
industry. Anviloy is also used in the extrusion industry for difficult
extrusions.
Benefits
- Minimizes heat checking
(thermal fatigue)
- Reduces soldering
(sticking)
- Low erosion rate
- Provides additional cooling
- Readily machinable
- Worn parts are easily re-machined into smaller diameter core
pins or larger extrusion dies.
- Requires no pre- or post-machining heat treatment
- Easily welded and repaired with Anviloy® weld rod
|
These Benefits will result in:
- Longer die and core life
- Less production downtime
- Better surface finishes on product
- Fewer rejects
- Lower cost per piece
- Less porosity in heavy sections
- Faster cycle times

Anviloy® 1150 is a tungsten based material made using special
high temperature powder metallurgy techniques. Anviloy® 1150
material has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal
conductivity and good material properties at elevated temperatures.
Tungsten is used as a base due to its high melting point and low
coefficient of thermal expansion. These properties result in
less thermal cracking and soldering with the die cast or extruded
material. Elements added to the tungsten enhance
machinability, ductility, and welding. The good thermal
conductivity provides an additional benefit to increase cooling in
difficult to cool areas and potentially increases production
rates. Material properties are established during Anviloy's®
1150 manufacturing which eliminates the problems associated with
heat treatment of the other tool materials.

Aviloy® 1150 can be used in conujunction with tool
steel in the design and use of die casting dies and extrusion
dies. The differences in thermal expansion must be allowed
for. The thermal conductivity of Anviloy® 1150
can be used to increase cooling in critical areas to minimize
porosity.
Anviloy® 1150 can be repaired or built up in worn areas
by the use of Anviloy® Weld Rod. The Anviloy®
Weld Rod is applied with TIG (GTAW) welding techniques.
Anviloy® 1150 is stocked in 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inch x up
to 12 inches long. Other sizes of Anviloy 1150 are
available. Anviloy® Weld Rod is available from
stock in 0.120 inch diameter x 7 inch minimum long rods. Other
sizes are available.
