S-7 has high toughness with good wear resistance.   With the ease of heat treat and low distortion it is highly desirable for plastic mold inserts.

Grade Name:	S-7 (DSS #7)
Chemistry:	C Cr Mo Mn V 0.50% 3.25% 1.35% 0.65% 0.20%
Applications:	Plastic mold inserts Trim Dies Straightening Dies and Rolls Pneumatic Tooling Shear Blades Punches Chisels
Heat Treatment:	Annealing Temp: 1500º F/1550º F - furnace cool Austenitizing Temp: 1725º F/1750º F Quench Medium: Sections under 2.5 inches - Air; sections over 2.5 inches - Oil Tempering Temperature: 400º F/900º F depending on required hardness.
Welding Specs:	Welding Rod: A.I.S.I. S-7 Pre-Heat temperature: 400º F Post-Heat temperature: Maximum of 50º F under last tempering temperature.
Surface Coating:	S-7 is capable of receiving many of today's surface coatings.  Check with your DSS sales representative or with any of the quality coatings companies.
